# TruthLens Privacy Policy

## 1. Overview

TruthLens ("we," "us," "our," or "the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides AI-assisted media analysis for videos on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

**Important:** TruthLens operates with minimal data collection and does NOT retain user data on our servers.

**Disclaimer:** TruthLens does not provide deepfake detection guarantees and should not be treated as a forensic verification tool. Results are confidence estimates only.

## 2. Information We Collect

### 2.1 Video Frame Data

* **What:** When you play videos on supported platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook), TruthLens captures temporary frame screenshots for analysis.
* **How it's used:** Frames are sent to a local analysis backend for confidence scoring only.
* **Storage:** Frames exist only transiently in memory during analysis and are discarded immediately after processing.
* **Retention:** Zero hours. Data is deleted immediately after processing.

### 2.2 Analysis Results

* **What:** Confidence scores such as "Real-Likely," "AI-Likely," or "Mixed."
* **How it's used:** Results are displayed as badges on videos for informational purposes only.
* **Third-party sharing:** Results are NOT shared with third parties.
* **Tracking:** TruthLens does NOT track which videos you analyze.

### 2.3 Extension Preferences

* **What:** Local settings such as enabled/disabled status and local badge statistics.
* **Where stored:** Only within your browser’s local storage on your device.
* **Accessibility:** TruthLens developers do not access, store, or receive locally processed user data.

### 2.4 What We Do NOT Collect

❌ Video content itself (only temporary frame images for processing)

## 3. How We Process Data

### 3.1 Local Processing (Default)

* Video frames are analyzed entirely on your device.
* Backend communication occurs locally on your machine.
* By default, data remains on your device during processing.
* No remote storage is used.

### 3.2 Optional Cloud Processing

If users configure external analysis services in the future:

* Frames would be transmitted only to the configured backend.
* Users control which backend processes their data.
* TruthLens does not automatically send data to Anthropic, Google, AWS, or similar services.
* Frames are not stored by TruthLens.

## 4. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Compliance

TruthLens is designed to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements.

* ✅ TruthLens does not collect browsing history.
* ✅ TruthLens does not sell user data.
* ✅ TruthLens does not use data for advertising or profiling.
* ✅ TruthLens does not transfer user data to advertisers or data brokers.

### 5.1 Transmission Security

* HTTPS encryption is used where applicable.
* Localhost communication remains on your machine only.

### 5.2 Storage Security

* No remote servers store user data.
* Local extension storage is protected by browser sandboxing.

### 5.3 Data Minimization

* TruthLens collects only the minimum information necessary for functionality.
* Frames are processed in-memory and discarded immediately.

## 6. Permissions & Why We Request Them

## 7. Your Data Rights

### 7.1 Access

All extension data remains on your device.

### 7.2 Deletion

* You may clear extension data anytime through the extension popup.
* Uninstalling TruthLens removes locally stored extension data.

### 7.3 User Control

You maintain full control over extension usage and processing behavior.

## 8. Third-Party Integrations

### 8.1 Backend Services

* Default processing occurs locally.
* Optional external backends are user-configured.
* TruthLens does not automatically connect to third-party AI services.

### 8.2 Chrome Web Store

Google may collect extension-related analytics as part of normal Chrome Web Store operations. TruthLens does not provide user analytics to Google.

### 8.3 No Advertising Partners

* TruthLens does NOT work with advertising networks or data brokers.
* TruthLens does not use collected data for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes.
* We do not sell user data to third parties.

## 9. Analysis Accuracy & Limitations

TruthLens provides AI-assisted confidence estimates only.

* Results are not guaranteed to be accurate.
* AI-generated content may be incorrectly classified.
* Real content may also be incorrectly classified.
* Results should not be relied upon for legal, financial, investigative, or editorial decisions.

## 10. Children's Privacy

TruthLens is not directed toward children under 13 years of age.

TruthLens does not knowingly collect information from children.

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically to reflect:
